Q. If I purchase a burial plot for myself or for my family now, are there any additional expenses?
A. Your grave site is paid for at the time you make the purchase, and you have the peace of mind in knowing that this matter is taken care of and your family will not need to worry about this expense at the time of a death. You will have a fee for the opening and closing of the grave, which is about $1200.

Q. What is the cost for a burial plot and burial at Green Mount Cemetery?
A.
The cost for the burial plot is currently $1000. At the time of the burial, there will also be a fee to open and close the grave, which is about $1200.

Q. Who owns Green Mount Cemetery and how is it managed?
A. The cemetery is owned and managed by the Green Mount Cemetery Association. The association is comprised of local citizens, all of whom have family members buried at the cemetery. (See more information in Our History.)

Q. How is the cemetery funded, and how do I know my grave site will be taken care of in the future?
A. The cemetery was established with a purchase of more than 150 acres of land. A portion of the land has been sold, and the investments from that capital fund our current maintenance. Another 67 acres are presently leased as tillable land for area agriculture. The association is charged with managing the investments and the additional land to assure the cemetery. (See more information in Peace of Mind.)

Q. Can anyone be buried at Green Mount Cemetery?
A.
Green Mount Cemetery buries people of all faiths and walks of life, and we do not in fact keep records on the religion of our families. Although we are located adjacent to the Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, our cemetery is entirely non sectarian, and people of Catholic, Jewish, or other faiths, or those who do not profess a faith, may be buried here.

Q. Do you offer cremation?
A.
Green Mount is a cemetery and is not affiliated with a specific mortuary, so we do not offer cremation or embalming services. Please contact your mortuary for a discussion of their services.

Q. Who do I talk to about requesting a grave marker or memorial?
A.
Grave markers and memorials are not purchased through the cemetery. You will need to contact companies that design and make monuments to make your selection. Often, the mortuary will assist you in locating appropriate businesses. Please know that you do not need to make this decision until you are ready, and some families prefer to consider the grave marker or monument a few weeks or months after your family member's passing.
